10 Things You'll Miss About Summer Camp
written on Feb 12, 2018
Every moment at camp is so packed full of fun that those first few minutes of homesickness quickly fade away. Yet, you may not really expect to miss so much about camp once you return home. Here’s just a few of the things that you’ll find yourself missing about summer camp as you wait for the next season to finally come around again.
You’ll Crave the Food
There is just something amazing about how good a hot dog tastes when it’s been grilled outside and you are hungry after swimming. Summer camps have all the basics such as fresh fruit and vegetables, but you’ll also find that your camp has a few specialty recipes that you just can’t get anywhere else.
You’ll Want to Wear Tie-Dye
Regular clothes seem so boring after you’ve been to camp. After all, your tie-dye clothes are full of bright colors that make even gloomy days seem special. Don’t worry, though. You can still wear tie-dye, but you may have to explain it to your non-camp friends!
You’ll Try to Get People to Use Your Nickname
Those little inside jokes at camp are hard to get other people to understand. Whether your nickname came from your athletic prowess or that silly thing you did during a skit, you just sometimes forget to respond to the name your parents gave you.
You’ll Miss Your Swimsuit
At camp, you spent more time in your swimsuit than you did your regular outfits. After all, you pretty much spent all of your time swimming, water skiing and playing games with your friends in the lake. Now, it feels weird to wake up and put on school clothes.
You’ll Wake Up Wanting an Adventure
Your school days are filled with opportunities to expand your mind, but you often wish that you were outside hiking through the wilderness. While you might not be able to go whitewater rafting away from camp, the good news is that you can still practice your skills by working hard in your school sports programs.
You’ll Find It Weird to Spend So Much Time on Solid Ground
You never thought you could spend so much time flying through the air until you went to camp. Between gymnastics classes, acrobatic lessons and all that time spent on the climbing wall, you forgot what it was like to walk on normal ground!
You’ll Be Messaging Your Bunkmates
During your time at camp, you make awesome friends that seem like you’ve known them forever. Once you get home, you’ll be messaging and calling each other like crazy. You might even find yourself sending care packages to each other to remind you of how much fun it was to craft and share stories at camp.
You’ll Wonder What Your Camp Counselor Would Say
Your camp counselor was the perfect combination of friend and adult authority figure. In fact, you leaned on them for support when you felt homesick or felt unsure about taking on a new challenge. Now, you wonder how they’d help you handle your challenges at school, and you often find yourself following the advice that you’re pretty sure they would give if they were there.
You’ll Wish You Could Sleep Outside
It felt so strange to sleep in a cabin on your first night at camp, and then you found out how cool it was to sleep outdoors on your first overnight trip. While you love your bedroom, you’re seriously considering asking your parents if you can set up a tent in the backyard for a night.
You’ll Look Forward to Next Year’s Hijinks
Sometimes, you catch yourself daydreaming about what you will do at the next camp season. Whether you’re dreaming up a funny costume to wear at the play or making up new lyrics to the camp song, you’re constantly getting ready to head back to camp.
While it’s hard to be away from camp, it helps to remember that the next season is just a few months away. Plus, you’ll be older, smarter and stronger your next round at camp, and that means that you’ll make even more awesome memories.
