Packing for Overnight Summer Camp
written on Jan 15, 2019
Every year represents a new opportunity to hit the lake and spend some of the most memorable moments with your friends. While opening day is drawing closer, we can practically feel the excitement in the air as campers begin their yearly packing ritual! To help you make sure that you show up with everything you need for several weeks worth of fun, here’s what you need to know about packing for overnight summer camp.
Think Crazy Camp Hats and Swimsuits
Comfort is the name of the game at summer camp. Leave those designer clothes at home, and pack your favorite outdoor styles. Most campers find that having at least two swimsuits is ideal since that’s what you spend most of your time in anyway. Having two gives one a chance to dry while you wear the other one to enjoy your favorite activities on Adventure Island. You’ll also want the usual several pairs of shirts, shorts and lots of socks and underwear - at least enough to get you by until the weekly laundry service freshens everything up.Bring a Few Toiletries
Feel free to leave the makeup at home. The lake tends to wash it all off anyway. We do recommend bringing some sunscreen to avoid the dreaded summer sunburn and some insect repellant is always nice to have. Then, add in some basic hygiene items. Deodorant, biodegradable shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush keep you clean and help you get ready for our special events like family day and the end of the year banquet.Toss In Some Unplugged Entertainment
If you think you’ll miss your electronics, then get ready to be pleasantly surprised. You’ll be so busy hiking, swimming and learning crazy new tricks on the wakeboard that you won’t even think about checking your social media accounts. We do ask that you leave electronics such as your cell phone and music players at home, but don’t worry…we’ve got all the fun you need right here. From musical lunches to Campchella and talent shows, you’ll suddenly be the biggest fan of living life unplugged. If you do need something for those quiet moments, pack a journal, some colored pens and your favorite novel to enjoy in your bunk or outside as you soak up the sun.
Grab Your Athletic Gear
At our camp, you’ll find some of the most experienced coaches and specialized safety equipment that you can ever use to learn advanced skills in specialty sports. However, there are some pieces of equipment that athletes tend to prefer to keep as their own. Since you’ll be spending tons of time on the water, make sure to bring a PFD life jacket that fits. We know it’s bulky, so just put it on top of your bag when you are packing for overnight summer camp.Depending upon your specialty sport, you may also want to bring things such as gym shorts, leotards, gymnastics footwear and hand grips. Avid swimmers may prefer to have their own snorkel or goggles.
In the past, campers have also found it fun to bring along a harmonica and other small instruments that they can entertain everyone with around the campfire.
Keep it simple is the rule to follow as you pack for camp this year. If you get stuck, just check out our handy packing list that covers the essentials. Then, be sure to show up on opening day with your duffle bag and an adventurous attitude and we’ll take care of the rest.
